I call home Phoenix and Flagstaff Arizona. We are blessed with the natural wonders of our fabulous earth. There is so much natural beauty and splendor, from the smallest flower to the grandest canyon. We miss so much in our fast paced world. We rarely have the time to appreciate where we live and what we have been given. I love to capture those natural wonders at that special moment in time. Never able to return, as that moment is now the past. To share with all who have missed that special moment in time. I have been a photographer since I was 12 years old. I became interested in photography while taking pictures with my father and his 35mm camera. Composing a shot is a talent that I was born with. Over the years, I have learned the importance of lighting and the impact that it has on photography. Lighting is the difference between a good picture and a great masterpiece. When shooting, I look at the lighting that exists, and work to capture the subject at an angle that provides the most dramatic lighting effects. I began using 35mm cameras in 1975 and stayed with that format for the next 25 years. In 1999, I bought my first digital camera and began learning how to use the many software products for "developing" the picture. Today, I have standardized on the Canon platform for my DSLR cameras and Sony for my mirrorless digital technology. Below is a list of my equipment.
My specialty is Landscapes, Plantscapes, and Portraits. I love the red rock formations found in the Southwest, therefore, much of my landscape photography is from the National Parks in Arizona and Utah. I have also traveled to the National Parks throughout the United States and Canada, and have a selection of photos from Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier, Yosemite, Death Valley, Rainer and Denali. I find the Arizona sunsets to be breathtaking, so I am always in search of that special "end of the day" surprise. With my plantscape shots, I look for a combination of lighting and nature's patterns. Rarely, do we take the time to really look at the detail that exists in our world (bringing to mind the cliché, "take time to smell the roses"). With the plantscape photography, I bring forth that detail that we have missed in our quick passing. In my portrait work, I strive to bring out that special "glitter" that exists in the inner self. I have a sense of when I am seeing the real person and when the look is staged. For portraits, I will use an outdoor location or can bring my portable studio to your location. My portable studio consists of a cloth backdrop (black, yellow, blue, brown) with several fixed halogen lights. When shooting, it takes many shots to get that perfect one. When I was working with film, it was very expensive and time consuming. Working in the digital world makes it much easier to take many shots to get one great shot. I take a camera with me wherever I go because I never know what I will see at any given moment. This spontaneity has resulted in several shots found in my portfolio. Another big advantage to digital photography is the ability to convert from color to black and white. I have found that many of the shots in my portfolio make great black and white shots. I have worked to make the smaller size prints (8x10, 11x14, 12x18 and 16x20) affordable. All prints 20x30 and larger are individually signed.
